What You Need to Know
Session fees are $230 for individuals (50-minute session) and $300 for couples (80-minute session). Clinical psychology services attract a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions annually of individual therapy when provided via a GP referral with a Mental Health Plan. The current rebate is $126.50/session (from 1/7/19), for individual therapy only.
You may also choose to attend privately without a referral or Mental Health Plan. In this case, a rebate may be available from private health insurers. Please contact your private health insurer to confirm the availability of this rebate and determine the rebate amount.
A Mental Health Care Plan is a document prepared by your GP to manage your mental health problems over time. Medicare have set eligibility criteria that a GP must follow in deciding if you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan.
To obtain a Mental Health Care Plan, you will need to make an extended consultation (20 to 30 minutes duration) with your GP. At your appointment, your GP will ask questions regarding your mental health and your circumstances and will ask you to fill in a brief questionnaire to assess the level of your symptoms. Your GP will discuss options for treatment and will provide the referrals for your treatment.
A cancellation fee will not be charged if you provide 48 hours’ notice when cancelling or changing an appointment. Last minute cancellations of less than 24 hours notice attract a full fee, and for 24 hours – 48 hours notice 50% of the full fee is charged. If there are exceptional circumstances that lead to an unexpected cancellation, please discuss these with me.
